new beginnings.
My FIRST blog post.
Holy Hallelujah! Finally. This has been a long time coming.
I sat here and stared at my computer for the longest time trying to word together my thoughts for this post. The only thing that I kept hearing was “new beginnings.”
Have you ever wanted to begin again?
In life there are many beginnings. The beginning of life. The beginning of learning how to walk and talk. The beginning of school. The beginning of a relationship. The beginning of a career. Beginnings are everywhere and are ever-present in our lives.
For those of you who don’t know me, I used to be a working dancer in Los Angeles. Since I was in middle school, my obsession with dance superseded life itself. Everything was about dance. Dance classes. Dance movies. Dance clothes. Dance shoes. I was pretty in to it to say the least. It was my life.
Until it wasn’t.
For those of you who are in the arts department, you can relate to where I am coming from. What began as an innocent childhood dream quickly became an unhealthy pursuit of fame and recognition. The movements I used to use as a way of expressing my inner-most thoughts and feelings, became a way to make a paycheck. Instead of feeling the sense of freedom in my art, it became a sentence I had to serve in order to eat.
Why is it that we, as human beings, choose to let life pass us by? Why do we allow ourselves to be consumed with the idea of “living our life” that we forget why we are living in the first place? We miss opportunities to begin again.
Maybe your story is different. Maybe you got married and told yourself that your dreams would happen after you said “I do.” Maybe you have placed your entire life on hold for the sake of your children. Maybe you pursued a career that you thought you loved and it turned out to be the very thing that is draining your soul.
How do we even go about beginning again?
Isaiah 43:18-19 (TPT) says,
“Stop dwelling on the past.
Don’t even remember these former things.
I am doing something brand new, something unheard of.
Even now it sprouts and grows and matures.
Don’t you perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness
and open up flowing streams in the desert.” (emphasis added)
In the scripture above, God is speaking to the people of Israel. He is telling them to stop bringing up the past. They kept thinking about their past punishment (their exile) and were yearning for the former days of Israel’s power. During this time they were being held captive by Babylon. Talk about having a bad day…. or years.
“I am doing something brand new, something unheard of.”
Maybe you dwell on your past mistakes. Your shoulda, woulda, couldas. Maybe you punish yourself for missing the chance to live your life. Maybe you are a mother or father that don’t know what to do since the children left the nest. Maybe you had to end your successful career to care for an elderly parent. Maybe you lost someone you loved. Maybe you have tried hard to pursue your purpose and nothing seems to go right, so you quit. Maybe you are so overwhelmed that you don’t even know where to start.
“I will make a way in the wilderness and open up the flowing streams in the desert.”
God seems to always make a way where there seems no way. You haven’t missed your opportunity to begin again. Chase down the Giver of Dreams. It’s not too late!
The time is NOW! Don’t stand back and allow time to drift.
God has such a powerful plan for your life. You were destined for greatness! From the very beginning, He has had you on His mind. Surrender your calendar to God and let the Creator begin a new work in you. You are not too old, too young, nor forgotten.
You are His and He wants to do an amazing work in and through you.
Let’s choose to begin again.
This year will be the year of new beginnings!
